Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Martin Andanar announced on Sunday that among the agenda of the Philippine delegation to Japan would be the country's shift to digital television.
In in his interview on dzBB, Andanar said the PCO would coordinate with Japanese officials on its implementation, citing Japan's advances in digital technology, and affirm past agreements signed by the two nations on improving Philippine media.
"Ang Japan kasi ang nangunguna sa digital technology, and from what I understand from the past administration, nagkaroon ng coordination ang ating gobyerno at ang Japanese government for the implementation of digital television," Andanar said.
Andanar said former Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Sonny Coloma had agreed with Japanese conglomerate Marubeni Corporation to help the Philippines shift from analog to digital television.
President Rodrigo Duterte is scheduled for an official visit to Japan from October 25 to 27 following his back-to-back state visits to Brunei and China.
Continue momentum
Andanar hoped that the Japan visit will sustain the momentum of Duterte which came home with with $24-billion worth of investments and credit facilities from China.
"Coming off a successful trip to China, kailangan yung momentum ay tuluy tuloy," he said.
Andanar said the country can expect several signing of letters of intent from Japanese private companies during Duterte's visit.
He added that Duterte will also attend an economic forum as well as a private dialogue with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
"We are optimisitic na makakapag-uwi ang Pangulo ng sari-saring investments para sa ating bansa," he said.
Abe invited Duterte to Japan during their bilateral meeting at the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation Summit in Laos last September.
